I would suggest going for an approach other than generic search engine optimization, obviously there will not be too many people searching within your specific circumstances. The best thing for you to do would be to try to find related social networks and blogs to get some traffic to your site.

I see no benefit in adding that meta tag to your site, it will not change anything with the way that search engines crawl your content, inbound links, or outbound links.

Hope this clears it up, good luck with it all.

Hi Jim,

I read you post, leaving me with questions.

I am not a newbie nor a polished web person, maybe one step above a newbie.

I have a new website (www.mycancerfund.net) that I just got off the ground.

I have gotten past the basics, since I have optimized my website ( keywords, meta tags etc) to be considered very good with the major seo websites that have looked at it.

Now, as my time allows it, I have been slowly requesting backlinks from directories and search engines with a page rank of 5 or higher. Related directories/search engines are rare to my website (donations) so I go for the health industry.

My gut feeling about linking TO / OR getting back links from un-related websites is just as important to nitch websites such as mine. My thinking is simple. My website content is vast, yet drilled down to a small nitch, that any person/website, related or un-related would not matter to most directories or search engines, that it would be seen as a general, off the wall website. And, yes, I know that related websites may improve my ranking. The question is still the same: Do un-related links matter? Your opinion on this would be appreciated.

QUESTION:
When I bookmark a website, or subscribe to a RSS feed, do you feel that this is looked upon as a link out to be searched/followed by a search engine if I list it in my metatag section to FOLLOW=:"http://www.***". ?

As a one step above a newbie, my website plan is to get as many links (related/un-related) from the following page ranks 5 or higher:

1. search engines
2. Directories
3. Social Networking - blogs/articles
4. Traffic driven websites to produce visitors.

I hope that I did not ramble to much with silly questions, but it matters to me.

Thank you for your time,
http://www.mycancerfund.net

James, hi,

Absolutely agree with the need to cater to all the search engines, not just Google.

'All your eggs in one basket' comes to mind if you only focus on Google - they make a change to their algorithms that punishes you for something and you're done.

I have a Squidoo lens that gets virtually zero traffic from Google - and a nice, steady flow from Yahoo.

Spread your favours far and wide, I say!

Cheers,

Martin.
